Quality to Last a Lifetime

At Sublima, we love making classic, striking jewelry that’s made to last. That's why we use tarnish-resistant brass (when polished, it closely resembles 14k gold) and sterling silver — plus, all of our brass and sterling silver is sustainable and recycled. We don't use plating, so nothing will wear away over time, and all metals are certified and free of cadmium, lead, bismuth, beryllium and other toxic metals.

We also provide a complimentary polishing cloth with each piece — its special micro-abrasive cleansing agents will keep your jewelry shiny.

Our Materials

Recycled Brass | We use a bright yellow version of the metal that resembles 14k gold when polished. Brass is a copper and zinc alloy. Ours has a lower level of copper, which makes the brass more resistant to tarnish. Plus, the brass we use is recycled and sustainable! See below for more details.

Recycled Deoxidized Sterling Silver | Our silver has a white color and high resistance to tarnish. It's also recycled and sustainable! See below for more details.

Recycled Metals | Our metals are sourced from a New York-based refiner called United Precious Metal Refining, Inc., which is certified for products with 100% recycled content. Our metals are not supplied from the mining industry. Metal recycling conserves natural resources, energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Gold, Gold-Filled and Sterling Silver Findings | We aim to use either solid gold, gold-filled or sterling silver earring posts, earring backings, necklace chain and clasps. A gold-filled item can be worn daily and last without tarnish for years because it’s made with a solid layer of gold constituting 5% of the item’s weight. (This differs from gold plating, which is more common and refers to a thin layer of gold that’s applied to the surface of another metal.)

Jewelry Care

Every few months, you may notice that your jewelry could use a little polishing. That's because over time, it comes into contact with moisture and oils from your skin and the air around you, which exposes the metal to oxygen, causing oxidation.

The result is that jewelry can appear less shiny, which is why we provide a free polishing cloth with every piece. It's the most effective and efficient after testing all the DIY options, like soaking or scrubbing using lemon juice or baking soda with a toothbrush. Those methods entail a fair amount of work with lackluster results — no pun intended.

All it takes is one minute to polish your jewels to their original shine using the polishing cloth that comes with your jewelry. It has special cleansing agents that are micro-abrasive and it polishes without scratching.

You can use the polishing cloth on your Sublima pieces because the jewelry is handmade in 100% recycled brass or recycled sterling silver. (It wouldn't be safe to polish plated jewelry — and we don't plate our pieces — because polishing would wear away the plating.)

Everyone's body chemistry and environment is different, but it may be helpful to give your jewelry a wipe down every few months. When you're not wearing your jewelry, you can store it in the velvet baggie that comes with it, to limit oxidation.

If you lost your polishing cloth or need a new one, email us at and we'll send another one in the mail, free of charge.
Our jewelry is made to last, and the polishing cloth we provide with each piece will keep it shiny through time, but here’s how you can help preserve its original condition.

  • Apply lotion, perfume or hairspray before putting on your jewelry.
  • Remove your jewelry before working out, swimming or showering.
  • Minimize contact with hard surfaces to prevent scratching.
  • Store your jewelry in its velvet baggie.
